Unit G Summary #8: Y-Intercept

8. How do you find the y-intercept of a rational function? Does this need to be done in the original or simplified equation?
To find the y-intercept of a rational function, I will plug "0" into all the variables and then solve for y-value. For the answer, I might get one or none y-intercept. I need to use the simplified equation because it is more correct and shorter than the original one. The simplified equation already crossed out the factors which are the holes of the graph. A hole occurs when both numerator and denominator equals 0. So if I want to have the right y-intercept, the simplified equation is the correct equation that I should use to plug in "0" and find the y-value.
