STUDENT VIDEO #2: Unit G Concept 1-7

• What is this video about?

This video shows how to solve a problem from Unit G Concept 1-7, which is finding the horizontal or slant asymptotes, the vertical asymptotes, the holes (if the factor(s) crosses out, the domain, the x- and y-intercepts. I created my own problem by putting down the factors and then multiply them all to get a ration function. In this video, we review the horizontal asymptote (the degree on top and on bottom are THE  SAME), the vertical asymptotes (the factors from the denominator will set up to equal to 0), the domain (DIVAH: Domain is Vertical Asymptotes and Holes), and x- and y-intercepts. 

• What does the viewer need to pay special attention to in order to understand the concept?

The viewers should pay attention to the factor because people usually can factor the polynomials wrong and get the answer wrong. There will be only one horizontal or slant asymptote, they cannot appear on the same graph. For the horizontal asymptote, the middle of the graph can TOUCH it once. However, for the vertical asymptotes, the graph can NEVER EVER cross them. Also, when we put the rational function into the graphing calculator, we should put the numerator and denominator in separate parentheses.
