MATH ANALYSIS REFLECTIVE BLOG POST

1. How have you performed on the Unit O and P tests?  What evidence do you have from your work in the unit that supports your test grade (good or bad)?  Be specific and include a minimum of three pieces of evidence.

RESPOND HERE: I got 89 percent for Unit O and 95% for Unit P tests. Although my grades show that I passed the tests, I did not sacrifice with the results. What I aim for is 100 percent. For Unit O, I did not review enough for the review part so that's why I was not confident with my answer. During the test, I was not careful when I answered the word problems. For Unit P, I set my works correctly; however, the answers were wrong. I think that it's due to my mistyping the numbers or my calculator. But I was very well prepared for the test. I knew how to do the work and memorized all the formula before taking the tests. I think I need to learn how to be patient.

2. You are able to learn material in a variety of ways in Math Analysis.  It generally follows this pattern:

→ Your initial source of information is generally the video lessons and SSS packets followed by a processing and reflection activity via the WSQ
→ individual supplemental research online or in the textbook before class
→ reviewing and accessing supplementary resources provided by Mrs. Kirch on the blog
→  discussion with classmates about key concepts
→ practice of math concepts through PQs
→ formatively assessing your progress through concept quizzes
→ cumulatively reviewing material through PTs
→ Final Assessment via Unit Test.

Talk through each of the steps given in the following terms:
a. How seriously do you take this step for your learning?  What evidence do you have to support your claim?  Make sure to make reference to all 8 steps.
b. How could you improve your focus and attention on this step to improve your mastery of the material?  What specific next steps would this entail?  Make sure to make reference to all 8 steps.

RESPOND HERE:
Step 1: a. I watch the video and copy down all the important key information. Usually, I will watch one problem first and then I would try to solve the others by myself after. It is the best way to learn because it shows whether or not that I understand the concept and know how to solve it. If I get stuck on one problem, I will watch the video to help me figure out what I do wrong. I always check the answers at the end.

b. I could improve more by showing each step of my works clearly. I should write down the mistakes that I made so I will not repeat it. So I will do well on my best and remember what I am weak at.
Step 2: a. I take the online research seriously because the research gives me more detail information about the concept. I usually look up the information using google. The "purplemath" website is a good place for me to learn and understand more.
b. I could improve my mastery of the material by looking up more websites and read all of them to see which one is right and wrong. Not all the information is correct. Knowing and understanding more about the concept will make my life easier in AP Calculus. Also, I can do well in the test as well.
Step 3: a. The sources that Mrs. Kirch provides are very helpful. I use them to find the answer for my question and the sources explain many things that are unclear. For example, when I learned about all the conic sections, the graphs that were provided by Mrs. Kirch were very helpful and detail. They allowed me to imagine how each conic section looks like.
b. I could improve more by checking out more sources from Mrs. Kirch. With the help coming from the source, I can do well on the test and get an A on the test. If I use the source from online and from Mrs. Kirch, I might understand and improve my knowledge more.
Step 4: a. My group always discusses the concept in class. We ask and answer each other's question, help the others who do not understand how to solve the problem, and ask Mrs. Kirch when we are not sure.
b. I think that the way my group discusses the key concept is very good at the time so I do not think we need any improvement.
Step 5: a. Practicing of math concept is very important. I think that without the PQs, I will never do well on the test. Learning math is not the only one thing, I also need practice as well to see the differences between each problems and different methods. That's why I always do the PQ right after watching the video.
b. I think I can do extra practices to help me improve my mastery of the material.
Step 6: a. I always try to aim for the treasurer club. The quizzes show how the test will look like and if I understand the concept or not. I always retake the quiz when I did not get perfect on it.
b. I can get a higher grade on the quiz by reviewing the materials before taking it. I will remember what I need to do and how to show the problem. Doing well on the quiz will help me do well on the test.
Step 7: a. I always read the SSS packets and look through all the problems from the PQs before taking the test. If I find something that I do not know or I am not sure about, I will look up the answer or ask my friends.
b. I think I should review the PT review parts because sometimes I did not do well on it. I focus too much on the recent unit and forget about the old one.
Step 8: a. I take the final assessment for the unit test seriously because I think it is very helpful. It shows what my weakness and strength are, what I can do and what I need to study more. Sometimes, I look at my mistakes, find out the answers, and check which parts I did wrong.
b. I think I take the final assessment seriously enough. However, it is better to ask the teacher when I do not know why I did my work wrong.
3. Reflect on your learning this year thus far by considering the following questions:
a.  How confident do you generally feel on the day of a Unit Test?  Give evidence and specifics to back up your answer.
b.  How well do you feel you have learned the math material this year as compared to your previous years in math? Give evidence to support your claim.
c.  How DEEPLY do you feel you have learned the math material this year as compared to your previous years in math?  Give evidence to support your claim.
d.  Do you normally feel like you understand the WHY behind the math and not just the WHAT/HOW?  Meaning, do you understand why things work, how they are connected to each other, etc, and not just the procedures?  Explain your answer in detail and cite specific evidence from this year.
e. How does your work ethic relate to your performance and success?  What is the value of work ethic in real life?

RESPOND HERE:

a. I am confident because I knew the formula and how to use it. I reviewed my SSS packets and did my PTs. I looked at some hard questions that I marked up. I could explain to my friend how to do a problem in detail.
b. Last year, I had a substitute teacher for second semester so I did not learn new things much. Math Analysis this years helps me understand math a lot better. I learned the matrix, the unit circle and where the people got the unit circle from.
c. The math material this year explained my unanswered questions from last year. I learned cool things and math vocabulary such as a sub b, not big a and little b, and the difference between simplify and verify. The conic sections also become harder as I had to learn how to graph it and how it looks like based on their vertex and vertices.
d. Yes. I understand the WHY behind the math. For example, the unit circle has the radius of 1 and the points keep repeating 1/2, radical 3 /2, and radical 2 /2. At first, I was not sure how the unit circle has these numbers. But with the activity in class, by using the rules for special right triangles, I find the answer. I break the unit circle into small triangle and then from there, I plugging the number 1, as the radius is 1, and find the missing side. Basing on the x- and y- axis, the point matches when I use the 30-60-90 right triangle's rule and 45-45-90 right triangle's rule.
e. I think I work very hard in this class. I take this class seriously because to me, this class makes me feel like it is an AP class, I always do things at the right time and with good quality. I ask questions when I need help. This class and my performance in the class help me understand that I need to be independent and keep things on task. I cannot always depend on the teacher nor be lazy. In real life, working hard will always the best thing that will lead me to the road of success.
